Earlier I reviewed the Freebie Images Plugin brought to you by Crestock Images. One of the issues I noted was the fact that the plugin required you to give up your caption as it added links (that did not work) in the caption. With the links not working due to Wordpress removing HTML within the captions, you are then not complying with the copyright permissions. So they need to fix this before I can totally recommend them.
However, after playing with this a bit, I have found a work around that works, allows you to use the caption as you want, and still provide a link back as required! Its simpler than I imagined, and here is how to do it…
Go ahead and find your image. Drag it in to your post and place it where you want. Remember, you may have to drag it twice as the first drag usually does not take. After you have done this, click on the image and click the Edit Image icon that comes up over the image. This will open up the details on this image you have just dragged in. Go ahead and COPY the links used within the Caption area, but do not delete it (this will delete the image.) Simply click cancel at this point.
Now, wherever you plan to place your image credit links, go ahead and place them using the details you have just copied from the image. How you are linking back as required by the copyright permissions. Once you have done this, click on the caption text itself (at the end of the caption) and backspace through it all to remove what is there, and replace it with the text you want to have. Since you are editing the caption here in the post, and not in the image’s details, the image will not disappear.
Now you have a great image, can take back your captions and still link back to comply with the copyright permissions! Not bad! Sure, it is a little more work, but if you want something free, you typically have to do more work for it. If you want it simple, then go buy the image and you will not have to worry about the link!
